Great eating and drinking in Roanoke. There’s no limit to how far I’ll drive to get Neapolitan pizza now that I live in a town without any. Fortunato made the trip worth it. Big Lick Brewing Company was a worthy follow-up: a beautiful space and great brews. The saison was particularly exceptional. Of course I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to visit Ballast Point’s eastern brewery to get some sculpins straight from the source.

A three-day trip down through the Shenandoah valley, from Winchester to Roanoke. I mostly stuck to the old valley pike, Rt. 11; a few shots here from Stephen’s City, Middletown, Strasburg, Staunton, and Lexington.
